City of God opening sequence analysis

Camera Shots
In the City of God opening sequence they used a range of camera shots but the one that stood out the most to me was the P.O.V shot of one of the market sellers. That P.O.V shot baisacally showed us how the market seller was living in an environment of poverty and that he didn't have a lot of money due to the condition of his teeth and face.

Camera Angles
The one camera angle that they mainly used in the opening sequence of City of God was a low camera angle. They mainly used this to make us imagine the view of the turkey particularly when he was getting chased and to show us how intimidated he must have felt because the low angle shot demonstrates the market sellers to be bigger then they actually are.

Camera Movement
The camera movement that will mainly stand out to viewers in the opening sequence of City of God is the 180 angle turn of the boy in the middle of the shootout. This shows the audience the surroundings of the boy and how serious of a situation he is in.

Editing
There was a bit of cross-cutting and matching on action towards the closing stages of the sequence. This was used to show that the two scenes will end up colliding as it did when the boy got in the middle of the shootout and when the other boy was about to take the penalty.

Sound
There was diegetic sound when the market people were chasing the turkey and there was also silence when the boy was in the middle of the shootout and when the penalty was about to be taken. The diegetic sound was to show the tradition and location of where the film was taken place which was in Brazil. The silence was used to show the tension in the situation the boy was in.

Mise-en-scene
The props were the market stalls and pots and pans. There was also a lot of tense and angry facial expressions which showed the anger shown towards the turkey and the worry of the boys face when he realises something dangerous might happen to him.
